My Apologies!

Hi everyone!

I’m really sorry at the lack of updates! My life has become a whirlwind lately (but in a good way). Since my last update, I got a full-time job. It’s great, but it demands a lot of my time, and unfortunately that means less time to update here. I also got engaged, so what extra time I do have, I’m spending it planning my wedding! 🙂

We are all still here, lol. Lolly is doing fine. She is a bit sad about me being away from home most of the day now, but we try to make it up to her by taking her to the park every weekend, and giving her lots of attention when we are home. My neighbors check in on her during the day and sometimes take her for long walks in the park on the trails. She has a blast! Sometimes I think she has more fun now then when I was home… =P

I have photos and videos to update eventually. Lolly’s got a couple more tricks up her furry sleeve, and she is pretty hilarious playing with other dogs at the park. I’ll try to put them up soon.

Thanks for hanging in there!

Happy Late Howl-aween!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late post. I wanted Lolly’s costume to be a surprise for a belated Halloween party this past weekend, so that’s why the website has been silent until now. Hehe.

Here are some photos from the Halloween events!

TV?

First, let me start with this: Super Cute Berner Puppy! .  Too cute…. could not resist….

So while we were at the Central Park event, we were spotted by a few TV people  They really enjoyed Lolly’s tricks, so they wanted to have an interview and do a segment on her!  Our meeting was delayed however, so I don’t know when this will happen.  Hopefully sometime this week.

Maybe I need to teach Lolly this…

Lolly’s Halloween costume is almost complete.  Many pricked fingers and frustrating events (needles breaking, thread snapping, etc) have led up to this event!  I can’t wait to unveil it, haha.

My Dog STILL Loves Central Park. =P

Hi everyone!

I know, it’s been a while!  Last update we were so excited that we were going to begin volunteering.  Sadly, we are still waiting for the organization we’re volunteering with to schedule with us!  They’ve really been dragging their feet on it, and we’re all getting a little frustrated.  I’ve never found it so hard to volunteer for something, lol.

This last Saturday was the 9th Annual My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair.  Sorry that I forgot to alert you all that it was coming up!  I completely forgot about it until I received a flyer in the mail.  Good thing I signed up for it last year…

Lolly had a blast!  We got to play with other dogs, and even saw two other Berners!  Her Puppy Kindergarten trainer, Erica, was there.  Even one of her classmates, Nelson!  It was a lovely reunion. 🙂

We participated in two of the contests.  I wish we had done more.  I really want to show off all of Lolly’s tricks. XD  I swear a video will be coming soon.  I just need someone to videotape both of us since some of the tricks can’t be seen if I have the camera.

We tried the Sit to Greet contest, which was Lolly’s nemesis, because they had all of her weaknesses as distractions! LMAO.  We had to approach three judges and Lolly needed to sit and not move for all of them; no getting up!  That alone is pretty tough for her since Lolly LOVES to meet everyone and tries to sit on their feet and lean on them.  The first had a bag of treats… which… well, Lolly thinks with her stomach!  The second had a stuffed dog… and Lolly loves it when I play with our stuffed dog with her.  She thinks it’s real!  Argh!  The last was a small child with a toy… and we all know how Lolly LOVES children and thinks she’s one of them. So needless to say we didn’t place anywhere, hahaha.  But she had fun, and that’s all that matters.

We also entered the Biggest Lap Dog contest after some urging from staffers at the event. (Sorry if I look horrible in the photos – it was super humid and hot that day >_<.)  I think we have more photos but they’re on Lenin’s camera at the moment, and he’s at work.  I’ll try to add them in later!

Lolly got lots of goodies.  Free samples from Freshpet, which she absolutely adores.  I dice it up and put it in her regular food and she cannot wait to eat it.  I hope I can find where they’re sold soon.  I’ve been rationing out the free samples so far!  She also got lots toys from PetSmart!  Lots of treats too!  At the end they wanted to get rid of all their freebies so we literally got a bag of balls and a bunch of leftover treats.  Lolly was beside herself. =P It’s a good thing we didn’t give her breakfast earlier that day.  We knew she’d be eating a ton at the fair.  She was so trick-and-treated out by the end that she didn’t even want to eat more treats!  It was unprecedented, haha.

Speaking of trick-and-treating (not trick-or-treat, because Lolly wouldn’t be very happy doing one and not getting the other, lol), we’re getting our costumes together for Halloween this year!  Lenin and I have ours already, I need to make Lolly’s, and soon!  It’s a surprise – I hope you all will like it. =P

Lolly’s ready for work!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well. Sorry for the lack of updates! Not much has happened that’s out of the ordinary. Last week, we did receive a package in the mail though, and Lolly was sooooo happy when we found out what it was!

She looks so proud.

We just got our contact for the place we will be volunteering at. Hopefully we set up a schedule soon. Lolly is now a working girl. 😉

Lolly can swim!

So we weren’t able to take a video since we both had our hands full supporting Lolly, but she swam for the first time this 4th of July weekend!

She was very scared at first and took a lot of convincing…

On Sunday we visited my Aunt and she said it was ok for Lolly to try the pool. She went down step by step until she accidentally put her face in the water! She really didn’t like that and backed right out, LOL. After lots of treats and encouragement, she walked back in to that step, and once we got our arms under her she doggy paddled towards the edge of the pool and then climbed out of the water. She then lay down on our towels and tried to desperately dry her face off, hahaha. At first I thought she hated it and was too terrified, and that was the end of that. But at the end of the night when we were leaving she tried to go in without us saying anything, lol!

On Monday we were in an above ground pool with no steps into it. Lolly came up on the deck with us and would hover her paws one at a time over the water and whine. We thought there was no way she’d come in, so we let her be, and the next thing we know we hear a big splash and Lolly is swimming to the other edge of the pool! We quickly supported her and helped her out and she was good for the night, but again she would keep going back and looking at the water. We closed the gate unless someone was in there to watch her.

She is definitely scared because this is a new experience for her, but I think she actually enjoys it! I’m so happy she is able to swim and cool off on these hot summer days. 🙂

GDF ID photo!

So we needed to take a photo for our Therapy Dog badge. Lenin was the photographer for our little photoshoot and this is the picture we all decided on. Doesn’t Lolly look so proud? XD

Health Update

Well, I have good news! We gave Lolly an little extra snack last night (since her Dental Strips are still coming in the mail…. hurry, treats, hurry!). Seems that did the trick and she’s back to her usual, healthy self. No vomiting at all. I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say she definitely has IBD, but it seems the case to me… and I’ll keep that in the back of my mind in case something like this comes up again. Eitehr way, I’m sure Lolly is happy that “more food” was the cure. Looks like she is one of those midnight snackers, hehe.

Puppy Health

So, a few days ago Lolly threw up in the morning, around 7 am. It’s was only a little bit, since she’s on a pretty empty stomach. It was a beige-ish, yellow-ish color. So far she’s done this every morning since then…

I’ve called the vet asking if I should be concerned. Aside from the vomit everything else seems pretty normal though – she eats fine, poops fine, has plenty of energy… They said it was most likely due to the heat. When I mentioned that Lolly had chowed down some sticks in the yard (I throw all the sticks away now, she ate so much… little girl is nuts!), they said that if she was still energetic and eating and pooping fine then there is no obstruction to worry about. So that’s good news. I’d feel horrible if my oversight led to her getting sick. =\

I’ve done some reading around on the internet, and I came across some interesting theories. Of course, none of them are confirmed yet, but I have a feeling it could be that Lolly has a minor case of IBD that we’ve unknowingly been treating this whole time. A doctor giving advice to an owner with a similar situation to ours mentioned that dogs with IBD can get a build up of acids in their stomach, and this causes irritation and leads to them throwing up in the morning. He mentions that something as simple as giving a late night snack can help. We always give Lolly her favorite treat – a Virbac Hexastrip dental treat around 11 pm, but we ran out recently so we haven’t been able to give her any lately. That’s when the throwing up started. The fact that this all happened around the same time, and that her vomiting happens at the same exact time every morning? I feel it must be this…. it’s far too coincidental. I’ll let you know if I figure anything out for certain, though.

Other than that, Lolly had a great time running around at Forest Park the other day. The next day she played with some of the children down the street with the hose/sprinkler. I gave her a nice bath since she was already pretty wet, hehe. Now she looks super nice and is all ready to meet my Aunt and Uncle on Sunday for an early 4th of July BBQ. We want to make a great impression! I hope they like her. >_< She's such a great girl, I wish people could see that. My family seems to have a lot of preconceptions about dogs and not in a positive way. We will just have to slowly show them over time that Lolly is a really good girl! Monday we will be going to our friend Chris's BBQ, and Lolly will definitely have a good time there! She loves him and his big yard!

Lolly’s First Puppy Party!

After graduating from her Therapy classes, Lolly was invited to one of her fellow graduate’s birthday parties! Max has just turned 1 year old, so we brought over some presents to celebrate. Lolly actually started to chew up one of them while we weren’t looking, LOL! We forgot to bring the camera, but Lolly had fun frolicking in the backyard with quite a few doggies. She ran around and ate almost every slice of puppy cake – peanut butter frosting on special carrot cake! – (and had the poops later after it all), performed tricks for everyone, and even waded in the kiddy pool with Charlie the golden retriever. I think she thought the party was for her! She had a great time. She fell asleep right away once we got home. 🙂

Vanessa & Max gave out some great party favors, one of which Lolly really loves to chew on (and has semi-destroyed already). I don’t know why she is so over the moon for this pink ball, but she really loves it more than her regular tennis balls. She chews on this one, whereas the yellow ones she just tries to… “de-fluff” them? (She uses her teeth to pull off the fuzzies on those.) I guess pink is her favorite color!

Lolly loves her new toy!
